If you just can't stay away from golfing in the winter months and you live in a place where it snows, you can learn how to swing your golf club in the snow to keep your game going. There is now a division of golf called snowgolf, and there are now snowgolf world championship in European countries such as Greenland and Austria.
Step 1
Use your snow blower to clear a patch of snow in the place where you will make your first swing. The area must be big enough for your golf club to completely clear the snow. If you don't have a snow blower, you can use a snow shovel or simply pat down the snow to make it compact and even for you to stand on, and for your club to swing without the snow becoming an obstacle. Once you swing your golf club, the snow may actually help you determine the path of your swing.
Step 2
Trace two parallel lines in the snow heading directly toward your target to help you envision the path you want the ball to take with your swing.
Step 3
Place your golf ball in the middle of the two parallel lines, which should be approximately 14 to 16 inches apart.
Step 4
Align the lines on the face of your club perpendicularly to the lines you drew in the snow toward the target.
Step 5
Swing your golf club straight down the target line, suggests The Classic Swing Golf School, with your club face pointing toward the target to get a straight shot.
Step 6
Clear a space in the ground once again where your golf ball landed and draw a new set of parallel lines to help guide your swing toward your target.
Step 7
Remove all snow in the putting green area using your snow blower and ensure that the hole is empty of snow so your golf ball can enter it easily.
Tips and Warnings
- Your golf club swing remains the same when you are playing in the snow, however it will be easier to track your swing in these conditions since you will be able to trace a path and see if your swing followed this path. Wear layers when playing in the snow so you can stay warm but still have the option to remove any top layers to have more agility in your swing.
