Comparison of Nordic Track Treadmills

NordicTrack began in 1975 when it introduced the first skier machine to the market. The company now makes an entire line of in-home fitness equipment, including elliptical machines, exercise bikes and treadmills. NordicTrack offers a large selection of treadmills. In December 2010, the official website featured 16 models, ranging in price from $749 to $3,299.

Design

NordicTrack treadmills are black and grey, with silver accents on some models. Almost all NordicTracks feature a space-saving design. The incline series treadmills are the only ones that do not fold up vertically. Several of the models, including the 1750, have an easy lift feature, a shock that helps you lift the deck to the upright position, incorporated into the foldaway design.

NordicTrack treadmills have cushioned decks to absorb some of the shock when your foot makes contact with the deck. More expensive NordicTrack treadmills, such as the 8500 Pro, have reflex deck cushioning that responds to your movements. Less expensive models, such as the T7, have adjustable cushioning. You slide a mechanism to make the deck softer or firmer.

Specifications

The horsepower on the NordicTrack treadmill motors ranges from 2.5 to 4, depending on the model. The typical deck size for a NordicTrack treadmill is 20 inches wide by 60 inches long. A couple of models, including the incline trainers, have shorter 55-inch decks, while certain more expensive models have wider 22-inch decks. The maximum weight capacity for most NordicTrack treadmills is 350 lbs. The most expensive model, the 9700 Pro, has a weight capacity of 375 lbs. Two of the less expensive models, the T7 and the A2350 Pro, have a weight limit of 325 lbs.

Features

NordicTrack treadmills have a speed range of 0 to 12 mph. Only one model, the T7, has a lower speed range of 0 to 10 mph. The higher-end NordicTrack treadmills have an incline range from 0 to 15 percent. The lower-end models top out at a 10 or 12 percent incline. The treadmills in the incline trainer series, designed specifically for intense workouts, offer up to a 40 percent incline. All NordicTrack treadmills have automatic incline ramps that are adjustable with the touch of a button on the console.

Programs

Every NordicTrack treadmill offers built-in workout programs. When you select one of these programs, the treadmill automatically adjusts the incline and speed settings for you during your workout. You can override the settings using the control buttons on the console. Depending on the model, a NordicTrack treadmill has 12 to 34 built-in programs.

iFit Technology

Most of the NordicTrack treadmills feature iFit Live technology. This technology allows you to access new workouts from specialized workout cards and the Internet. The higher-end machines, such as the 9700, have iFit built in. The treadmill connects wirelessly to the Internet so you can download workout programs. Less expensive models, such as the 1500, are iFit compatible, but you have to purchase the adapter separately. The least expensive models, such as the T7, feature iFit Live workout card technology. Purchase these special cards separately and insert the card into the treadmill console. The card controls the speed and incline settings and guides you through the workout.
