Relief of Itchy Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a condition that causes red itchy uncomfortable patches of dry skin. This autoimmune disease causes skin cells to rapidly reproduce. For the person suffering from this condition, these red scaly patches cause both discomfort and embarrassment. The National Institute of Health states that there are approximately 7.5 million Americans with psoriasis. While there is no known cure for psoriasis, there are ways to relieve the uncomfortable symptoms.

Step 1

Draw a warm bath and add a can of evaporated milk or 2 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar. Soak in the bath for at least 15 minutes to see some results. This will help to alleviate the itching for some immediate relief.

Step 2

Keep your skin as moist as possible. Add a cup of vegetable or olive oil to your bathwater periodically to help keep your skin soft and apply lotions after your bath and before bedtime. Lotions that contain lactic acid may provide better relief from itching.

Step 3

Work on eliminating stress from your life as much as possible. Set aside special time to unwind if possible and avoid getting too upset if you can. Stress can aggravate psoriasis, so as much stress as you can eliminate, the better you will feel.

Step 4

Use a pumice stone or electric razor to gently scrape away as much of the scaly buildup as possible. Be careful not to use anything sharp that may cause cuts or lesions and aggravate the area more than before.

Step 5

Spend some time in the sunshine. Sunshine can help increase vitamin D production which can help you to gain back a little control over Psoriasis.
