There are many factors to consider when purchasing batting gloves, including comfort, size, padding, durability and breathability. According to Wise Choices, you should not bother wasting time and money purchasing off-brand batting gloves. Instead you should purchase them from market leaders such as Franklin, Mizumo, Rawlings, Wilson and Under Armour because these companies know a great deal about performance and value at reasonable prices.

Identification

Batting gloves are worn by baseball players for a number of reasons. While batting, palms often get sweaty from the heat and the physical activity of the game; batting gloves help get that extra grip on the bat. Padding is important on batting gloves as the shock from hitting the ball is absorbed into the padding, making it less painful for your hands. For those running bases, sliding into the base on the dirt could scrape up your hands, but wearing a padded batting glove could protect them. Some baseball players wear the batting glove under their baseball glove; this also helps absorb shock when the baseball hits the glove.

Size and Material

When purchasing a batting glove, you must first figure out what your size is. The best way to do that is to measure your hand from the tip of your middle finger to the bottom of your palm. While size is one of the most important features when choosing the right batting glove, selecting the best material is the next important thing. According to Galt Home, an independent online guide since 1995, most of the popular gloves are made of some type of leather, but the best leather to choose is sheep's instead of cow's as sheep's leather absorbs sweat better and is much more flexible.

New Technology

Major market leaders are continuously striving to improve their products with new technology to have a cutting edge over other competing companies. A prime example is the Easton Adult Stealth Speed batting glove, which retails at $40 as of December 2010. This glove "features pre-curved finger designs so that they fit your hand better, allowing unrestricted finger movement, " according to Pro Batting Gloves. Another example is the Nike Show Elite Adult batting glove. Retailing for $40, they feature a Cabretta leather palm, sphere dry fabric that allows optimal air flow for reduced moisture on your hands and a spandex flex that helps with movement of the batter's hand.

Affordable Prices

According to Galt Home, you can purchase a good quality batting glove for $20. One brand is the Louisville Slugger TPX Pro Design Series. These gloves are made of premium goatskin leather which offers a soft and supportive grip on the bat. They also come in 11 different colors and seven sizes. Another example is the Mizuno Vintage Pro G3 Batting Glove. These gloves have been worn by the pros, and they feature a sensor point palm for improved grip and airmesh fabric for improved breathability.

Considerations

Try the batting gloves on before you purchase them, making sure they fix snugly but still allow enough movement for your hands. Check to make sure there are no seams in locations along the fingers or across the palms; these are points of resistance which would cause rubbing and irritation to your hands.
