Your wrist measurement is important in figuring out your ideal weight because your wrist's size determines your body frame and your ideal weight is contingent on your body frame. People with a large body frame because they have larger wrists have an ideal weight that is 7 to 20 lbs. more than medium-framed people and 10 to 31 lbs. more than small-framed people, according to the height-for-weight table.
Men
The University of Maryland Medical Center specifies the correlation between your wrist size and body frame. It lists different wrist measurements for average-sized, tall and short women, but has only one category for men -- men who are taller than 5 feet 5 inches. Large-framed men have wrists that are more than 7.5 inches in circumference, while medium-framed men's wrists are 6.5 to 7.5 inches and small-framed men's wrists are less than 6.5 inches.
The average American man is 5 feet 9 inches tall, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's "Mean Body Weight, Height and Body Mass Index Report." A large-framed 5-ft., 9-inch man's ideal weight is 155 to 176 lbs., while a medium-framed man who is the same height has an ideal weight of 148 to 160 lbs. and a small-framed 5-ft., 9-inch man's ideal weight is 142 to 151 lbs. Your ideal weight changes 2 to 5 lbs. per inch, according to the height-for-weight table.
Average-Sized Women
The average American woman is 5 feet 4 inches tall, according to the CDC's "Weight, Height and BMI" report. The University of Maryland Medical Center reports that women who are between 5 feet 2 inches and 5 feet 5 inches tall have a small frame if their wrist measurement is less than 6 inches, a medium frame if their wrists are 6 to 6.25 inches and a large frame if their wrists are more than 6.25 inches. A 5-ft., 4-inch woman's ideal weight is 114 to 127 lbs. if she has a small frame, 124 to 138 lbs. if she has a medium frame and 134 to 151 lbs. if she has a large frame.
Tall Women
Women who are taller than 5 feet 5 inches have a small body frame if their wrist size is less than 6.25 inches, a medium frame if their wrists are between 6.25 and 6.5 inches and a large frame if their wrists are more than 6.5 inches. A 5-ft., 7-inch woman's ideal weight is 123 to 136 lbs. if she has a small frame, 133 to 147 lbs. if she's medium-framed and 143 to 163 lbs. if she's large-framed. A 5-ft., 10-inch woman's ideal weight is 142 to 156 lbs. if she's medium-framed.
Short Women
Women who are shorter than 5 feet 2 inches have a small body frame when their wrist size is less than 5.5 inches, a medium frame when their wrists are 5.5 to 5.75 inches and a large frame when their wrists are more than 5.75 inches. A 5-ft., 1-inch woman's ideal weight is 106 to 118 lbs. when she's small-framed, 115 to 129 lbs. when she's medium-framed and 125 to 140 lbs. when she's large framed.
