Figuring out what you're going to eat may be one of the hardest parts of going on a diet. But with products from companies like Isagenix, the decision-making process is taken out of the equation. Isagenix is a weight-loss company that helps you lose by replacing your usual food with shakes, bars and special snacks. Knowing what's in these food replacement items from Isagenix may help you decide if these products are right for you. Before you turn to a meal-replacement diet to help you lose the weight, consult your doctor.

Isagenix IsaLean Shake Ingredients

Isalean shakes are a meal replacement drink that provides 240 to 250 calories, 22 to 24 grams of protein, 22 to 24 grams of carbs, 8 grams of fiber and 5 to 8 grams of fat. The shakes come in a variety of flavors, including Dutch chocolate, French vanilla and strawberry cream.

The primary ingredient in most of the shakes is Myo-IsaLean Complex, which is a mixture of whey and milk protein and nonfat milk powder that serves as the source of protein in the shake. If you can't tolerate milk or have an allergy, the Natural Berry Harvest shake from Isagenix features pea and hemp protein as its first ingredient and protein source. Carbohydrate ingredients include fructose, which is fruit sugar, as well as molasses powder and isomaltooligosaccharide powder, which is a low-calorie sweetener. Fat sources include sunflower oil powder, olive oil powder, canola lecithin and medium-chain triglycerides.

The shakes also contain a long list of other ingredients, some that may sound familiar and some that may not, and the specific ingredients included depends on the flavor of the shake. Possible ingredients include flaxseed powder, ionic alfalfa, a sprout blend, magnesium oxide, various enzymes and sea salt. As a meal replacement, these shakes also contain added vitamins and minerals, including B vitamins, vitamins E and D, beta carotene, selenium and manganese.

Isagenix IsaLean Bar Ingredients

The bars from Isagenix are also meant to be used as a meal replacement item and have a similar nutritional profile as the shake. One bar, which comes in flavors such as chocolate, chocolate peanut, oatmeal raisin and lemon, has 210 to 270 calories, 18 grams of protein, 27 to 32 grams of carbs, 1 to 6 grams of fiber and 5 to 9 grams of fat.

Like the shake, whey protein is the first ingredient and source of protein in the bars, but some flavors also contain nonfat milk. Depending on the flavor of the bar, carbs may be provided by numerous ingredients, including: brown rice syrup, tapioca starch, rice flour, fructose, honey, invert sugar, polydextrose, maltodextrin, maltitol syrup or evaporated cane juice syrup. The ingredients providing fat are palm kernel oil, lecithin, sunflower oil, milkfat, cocoa butter and nuts. Inulin and chicory root fibers are added to provide the fiber content. The bars also contain added vitamins and minerals to make them a more complete meal replacement.

IsaLean Pro Ingredients

IsaLean Pro is a shake similar to the IsaLean Shake; however, it has more protein and is marketed toward athletes trying to gain muscle or those trying to get over a weight-loss plateau. One packet of IsaLean Pro, whether vanilla or chocolate, contains 280 calories, 36 grams of protein, 21 grams of carbs and 6 grams of fat.

The protein shake also contains a special blend of milk proteins including whey protein concentrate, milk protein concentrate and nonfat milk powder, and is the most abundant ingredient in the shake. Depending on the flavor of the shake, carb ingredients may be isomaltooligosaccharide powder, tapioca maltodextrin, honey powder, apple juice powder and fructose. Olive oil powder, flaxseed oil power, sunflower oil powder and MCT oil are ingredients that provide fat.

IsaLean Pro contains an enzyme blend, including invertase, papain and bromelain, as well as sea salt, yucca, stevia leaf extract and psyllium powder -- which adds fiber. These shakes are also fortified with vitamins and minerals.

Slim Cake Ingredients

If you feel the need to tame your sweet tooth, Isagenix offers its Oatmeal Berry Slim Cake, which is a type of high-fiber cookie made from oats, flaxseed and a blend of berries. One serving of the sweet treat, which is one cookie, has 90 calories, 2 grams of protein, 20 grams of carbs, 5 grams of fiber and 2 grams of fat.

The cookie also contains unbleached wheat flour, water, raisins, maltitol, erythritol, polydextrose, inulin, oat bran, dried cranberries, blueberries, organic agave syrup, organic evaporated cane juice, vegetable oil shortening and white chocolate chips. A Slim Cake has a small amount of whey protein concentrate, sodium bicarbonate, natural flavors, salt and cellulose gum.
