Skiing is one of those sports where if you do not dress properly, chances are you're going to regret it. Under-dressing or wearing inappropriate clothes for a day on the slopes will likely leave you cold and miserable. But dressing using the common three-layer system, will give you much better odds of a fun and warm day skiing.
Thermal Underwear
Thermal underwear is the first layer in the three-layer system, which is recommended by Ski Snow Valley. Wear long sleeved top and bottom thermal underwear that is made of a synthetic material and has wicking ability. Wicking means that it draws the moisture from your skin, which helps to keep you warm.
Fleece Pullover
Fleece is recommended for the second insulating layer, in the form of a pullover, long sleeved shirt or vest. Fleece also has wicking ability and will further help to pull the sweat and moisture from your skin. A wool sweater or sweatshirt will also work if you prefer.
Ski Pants And Ski Jacket
The third and final layer of clothing consists of waterproof ski pants and ski jacket. Most ski pants and jackets are made in a variety of colors and styles so that you will fashionable while staying warm on the slopes. You will want to choose materials that will help to block moisture, wind and cold, but that is also breathable and will help to further remove moisture from your body. Also, you may want to choose a jacket and pants that has a removable lining, to accommodate warmer weather patterns.
Socks
Wool or acrylic socks are most recommended for skiing, since they will help to remove the moisture from your feet, which greatly assists in keeping you warm. Athletic socks will hold the moisture causing your feet to be cold and uncomfortable while skiing.
Gloves
Wearing gloves or mittens is a must out on the slopes, however, which you choose is completely up to you. Most important is that they keep your hands warm and dry, while also allowing you to hold onto the ski poles.
Helmet or Hat
A good deal of your body heat can escape from your head, making a hat or helmet a must. Helmets are becoming more popular on the slopes, as they help to prevent from head injuries in case of a bad fall.
Goggles
It is a good idea to protect your eyes while skiing, in the form of goggles or sunglasses. Goggles will usually work better on colder days or while it is snowing.
