Although everyone knows that it's most important to have a healthy baby, many couples do favor having a girl or a boy. This might be because they already have the other, they like a certain name or for any number of other reasons. While most prospective parents won't go as far as seeking medical intervention to choose, many will do some easy methods such as following a specific diet.
Salty Foods and Dairy Products
Foods with a high salt content are thought to aid in producing baby boys by some gender-predicting "experts," notes Babyzone.com. Foods, such as meats and fish, are also high on the list for conceiving a boy. Many gender predicting experts also once believed that a diet high in dairy helped produce girls, but a study in the UK published in April 2008 the journal "Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences," found the opposite to be true about dairy products.
Bananas
The study published in April 2008 in the journal "Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences" also found that the consumption of bananas increased the likelihood of conceiving a boy. Bananas are high in potassium and this may be the essential ingredient in conceiving baby boys.
Breakfast Cereal
Additionally, the 2008 study in the journal "Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences" reports that participants who ate the most breakfast cereal had more boy births. This may be because in general, women who consumed more calories had more boys than women who had fewer calories. Male fetuses thrive in a nutrient-rich environment and breakfast cereals are often fortified with many nutrients and vitamins.
Glucose
The presence of glucose in the mother's blood seems to have an effect on having baby boys as well -- the more glucose, the higher likelihood of giving birth to a boy, according to Babyzone.com. Low glucose levels may be interpreted by the body as a poor environment for a baby and boy fetuses thrive in a healthy environment.
