It has a high percentage of medium-chain saturated fatty acids, and 1 tbsp. of coconut oil contains 117 calories and 13.6g of fat. Despite its high fat content, proponents claim that consuming organic coconut oil can help boost your metabolism to help you lose weight. Bruce Fife, author of "Virgin Coconut Oil: Nature's Miracle Medicine," claims that daily supplementation of coconut oil can help you shed pounds gradually.

Step 1

Consume 2 to 4 tbsp. of organic coconut oil daily, spread throughout your meals. You can consume the oil before or with meals.

Step 2

Add a daily serving of organic coconut oil to your salads or fried foods if you can't stand the taste of it by mouth.

Step 3

Replace any other oils that you use in your daily diet with coconut oil.

Step 4

Eat a healthy diet consisting of an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables, and exercise regularly, advises Bruce Fife. You must maintain a healthy lifestyle to gain good results.
