Wake skating is an offshoot of wakeboarding that combines the tricks of street skateboarding with the riding locations of wakeboarding and water skiing. Wake skaters utilize a wide fiberglass board to carve across the water. The lightweight construction of the wake skate allows you to flip the board in the air.

Ollie

The Ollie remains the starting point for all wake skating tricks. The Ollie allows you to lift the wake skateboard above the water. Release your dominant hand from the handle of the skiing rope. Bend your knees to compress your wake skating stance. Push down on the back of the wake skateboard with your dominant foot. Jump into the air while lifting your knees. Alliance Wake recommends tweaking the board with your front foot for extra style points. Utilize the wake of the skiing boat to increase the height of your Ollie.

Pop Shove It

The pop shove it involves rotating the wake skateboard 180 degrees. Release your dominant hand from the rope handle while compressing your riding stance. Wakeskating.com recommends positioning your lead foot near the middle of the board. Apply pressure to the back of the wake skateboard with your dominant foot. Jump while kicking your lead foot forward to rotate the board. Lower your feet onto the top of the board as it completes the pop shove it.

Heel Flip

Lean back to navigate your wake skateboard 15 to 20 feet away from the wake of the skiing boat. Bend your knees to compress your wake skating stance. Position your lead foot towards the middle of the wake skateboard with your toes hanging off. Extend your legs while pressing down on the back of the board with your dominant foot. Kick the heel of your front foot against the edge of the wake skateboard. Raise your shoes to allow the board to flip. Lower your feet onto the board as it completes the heel flip.

Board Slide

Many wake skaters perform tricks on rails that feature a PVC construction. Approach the wake skating rail with a good amount of speed. Compress your riding stance for added balance. Apply pressure to the back of your wake skateboard while jumping towards the rail. Rotate your shoulders 90 degrees until your wake skateboard is perpendicular to the rail. Lean forward as you begin the board slide. Rotate your shoulders back to a forward riding stance as you slide off the end of the rail.
