Many people struggle with weight loss. Available options include diet, exercise programs, surgeries and holistic approaches. There are so many weight-loss options available that it can be hard to figure out which one is best for you. There are many legitimate resources to help learn about weight loss -- from experts in the field to books and classes. It's just a matter of finding which resources will offer credible information that addresses your needs.

Step 1

Talk to the medical experts who know you best. Your physician or any medical expert you consult on a regular basis such as a cardiologist or gynecologist can help point you in a direction to launch a healthful and balanced weight loss program. Your doctor may also recommend a weight loss expert such as a dietitian or nutritionist. These are people who are trained in healthy weight loss methods.

Step 2

Consult the Internet for additional information. The United States Department of Agriculture posts an online food pyramid that can guide you in healthy eating. The United States Centers for Disease Control also posts a guide to healthy weight loss. This program features five steps to getting started losing weight. Another online weight loss resource is a guide to learning how to read food labels published by the United States Food and Drug Administration. If you aren't sure of the credibility of a site, consult your physician.

Step 3

Investigate weight loss programs at a local community center. These programs pull people with similar goals together to work as support for each other in a common quest to lose weight. The leaders of the group can educate you on proper nutrition, correct exercise and a healthy lifestyle. The participants in the group provide support and encouragement for each other through the process.

Step 4

Join a gym. Most gyms offer the services of personal trainers who have specialized training on fitness and weight loss. The trainers can work with you to create weight loss goals that will get you in shape. They can create an exercise program that will help you reach your weight loss goals or a diet that you can follow outside of the gym. Trainers are also skilled at providing support and encouragement as you work to lose weight.
