The human body may have increased toxicity because of many factors, including pollution, inorganic food, substance abuse such as smoking and alcohol, poor dietary habits and other environmental concerns such as water purity and soil contamination. The main goal of cleaning out the body is to reduce the body's toxicity. According to Dr. Elson Haas in his book "Staying Healthy With Nutrition," toxins in the environment and in food contribute to body toxicity and increase the instances of life-threatening conditions.
Vitamin-Rich Foods
Vitamin-rich foods help to clean out the system by aiding in immune system function and cell regeneration in the body. Vitamin C and A in particular are the most help in boosting the immune system, which helps the body fight consequences of toxicity, viruses and viral infections. According to Dr. Haas, the immune system also helps regenerate damaged cells which are a result of body toxicity. Vitamin E is particularly useful in cell regeneration and growth. Vitamins rich in vitamins include colorful vegetables and fruits, including carrots, bell peppers, squash, oranges, strawberries and mangoes.
Foods Rich in Antioxidants
Antioxidants are the nutrients in food that help to reduce damage caused by free radicals in the system. Antioxidants are found in foods such as fruits and vegetables; nuts; grains; and some meats, poultry and fish. The foods noted as being highest in antioxidants are berries, seeds and spices. Free radicals come from pollution in the environment, damaged food molecules that are consumed, substance abuse such as smoking and excessive alcohol intake, and poor dietary and lifestyle habits. These free radicals are toxifying and cause mutations and cellular damage in the body, and according to the National Institutes of Health, they play a role in heart disease, cancer and aging. The National Cancer Institute cites that antioxidants may slow or possibly prevent the development of cancer.
Foods Rich in Fiber
Fiber is a food molecule in the carbohydrate family and is simply described as the indigestible parts of food. Fiber is unable to be broken down and assimilated in the body. It helps to move fecal matter through the intestines and therefore clear them out. The bowels are crucial in the body's ability to eliminate toxins. Diets that are low in fiber lead to slower and less efficient digestive system, which then may lead to constipation and weight gain. Beyond these immediate consequences, fecal matter that is not evacuated from the intestines can become more toxic over time, causing some undesired substances to leak back into the blood system through the intestinal wall. Fiber-rich foods help to clean out the system by keeping the intestinal matter moving along and being removed from the system, avoiding toxicity in the bowels and digestive system.
Organic Foods
Foods that are organic are those that are grown without use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides or herbicides; raised without antibiotics or hormones; and produced without additives, preservatives and other unnatural ingredients. According to an article published by Princeton University, consuming beef that has been treated with growth hormones is associated with an increased risk of cancer in humans. Compared with inorganic options, organic foods have a cleansing effect because as you reduce consumption of preservatives and food additives, your body becomes able to clearing out the unnatural substances it has already been filled with.
