In 1976, Billy Blanks developed an exercise method which combined classic techniques from boxing and kickboxing with a musical beat. Billy Blanks named this workout Tae-Bo. In 1982 the first Tae-Bo Fitness class was offered in Boston, Massachusetts. By 1989, Tae-Bo was moved to California. In 1998 the first Tae-Bo workout DVD was released. The benefits of a Tae-Bo workout include improved strength, coordination, speed, balance and body awareness.
Becoming a Tae-Bo Instructor
Step 1
For approximately nine months before attending a Tae-Bo Instructor training, begin an exercise regimen. Perform aerobic exercises, like walking or biking, for 30 minutes or more 3 to 5 days per week. Perform strength training exercises for every major muscle group in the body for 12 repetitions 2 to 3 days per week. Perform flexibility exercises for all major muscle groups, holding the stretch for 15 to 30 seconds, most days of the week.
Step 2
Go to www.redcross.org. Select the "Get Trained" tab. Enter your zip code. Select "CPR/AED" from the course categories. Select the course delivery format. Select the date you would like to take the training. Click on the map point to view course offerings. Select the training course you would like to attend. Attend the course training.
Step 3
Select two people to write letters of recommendation for you. Ask those two people to write letters of recommendation for you to attend the Tae-Bo Instructor training. Collect the two letters of recommendation. Turn in the two letters of recommendation when you register for the Tae-Bo Instructor course.
Step 4
Consider why you want to become a Tae-Bo Instructor. Write a personal statement addressing why you want to attend camp to become a Tae-Bo Instructor. Turn in this personal statement when you register for the camp.
Step 5
Go to www.teamtaebo.com/signup. Enter your name and email address. Select the date of the workshop you would like to attend. Enter your first and last name. Complete the registration form.
Step 6
Prepare for the exams you will take at the certification camp by studying the manual that Tae Bo Fitness sends you after registration.
Step 7
Attend the intense three-day certification camp. Attend camp lectures,, the hands-on training and pass the written and physical exams.
Step 8
Re-certify your Tae-Bo instructor certification, 12 months after your certification, by registering for a re-certification camp. Attend the re-certification camp.
Tips and Warnings
- Tae-Bo camps are held in Franklin, Tennessee. To attend camp you need nine months of physical fitness training, a valid CPR certification, two letters of recommendation and a personal statement describing your reasons for wanting to become a Tae-Bo instructor. A Tae-Bo certification is valid for 12 months.
- The final step in becoming a Tae-Bo instructor includes passing a physical and written exam. If you do not pass either of the two exams you cannot become certified.
