When eating out, fast food may be your cheapest option, but it may not always be the healthiest. Some fast food meals contain a day's worth of calories, fat and sodium. But as an informed consumer, you may be able to make healthier choices without breaking either your calorie or money bank, and be able to find menu options with less than 300 calories.

McDonald's

McDonald's features a number of items with less than 300 calories. A regular cheeseburger from McDonald's contains 300 calories, 12 g of total fat, 6 g of saturated fat, 750 mg of sodium, 33 g of carbohydrates and 15 g of protein. You can save 50 calories and 3 g of total fat if you order the McDonald's hamburger instead of the cheeseburger. Some of the McDonald's grilled snack wraps also have less than 300 calories, including the grilled honey mustard snack wrap with 260 calories, 9 g of total fat, 3.5 g of saturated fat, 800 mg of sodium, 27 g of carbohydrates and 18 g of protein. You may also consider an order of the six piece chicken nuggets with 280 calories, 17 g of total fat, 3 g of saturated fat, 600 mg of sodium, 16 g of carbohydrates and 14 g of protein.

Burger King

The Burger King menu also offers a few items with 300 calories or less. The hamburger with lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup and mustard contains 260 calories, 10 g of total fat, 4 g of saturated fat, 490 mg of sodium, 27 g of carbohydrates and 13 g of protein. The five-piece crown-shaped chicken tenders with barbecue sauce have 260 calories, 13 g of total fat, 2.5 g of saturated fat, 780 mg of sodium, 24 g of carbohydrates and 12 g of protein. A tender grill chicken salad without dressing contains 300 calories, 10 g of total fat, 3.5 g of saturated fat, 1,050 mg of sodium, 18 g of carbohydrates and 35 g of protein.

Kentucky Fried Chicken

Kentucky Fried Chicken also features a number of items with 300 calories or less. Many of its grilled chicken items are less than 300 calories, for example one grilled chicken breast contains 210 calories, 8 g of total fat, 2.5 g of saturated fat, 460 mg of sodium, 0 g of carbohydrates and 34 g of protein. If you can limit your intake to three, you can have three boneless honey barbecued chicken wings which contain 240 calories, 10.5 g of total fat, 1.5 g of saturated fat, 1,020 mg of sodium, 21 g of carbohydrates and 15 g of protein.

Taco Bell

Taco Bell features a menu with low-calorie options. The fresco grilled steak sandwich contains only 160 calories, 4.5 g of total fat, 1.5 g of saturated fat, 550 mg of sodium, 21 g of carbohydrates and 9 g of protein. The nacho cheese chicken gordita also has 270 calories, 10 g of total fat, 1.5 g of saturated fat, 760 mg of sodium, 30 g of carbohydrates and 15 g of protein per serving.
