Trampolines are an easy way to get the whole family exercising. Popular with kids and fun for adults, a new trampoline can quickly turn your backyard into the neighborhood playground. JumpSport and Skywalker are companies that offer full lines of trampolines with different features and accessories, and the companies' products have more similarities than differences. Set a budget before you choose a trampoline, and remember to factor in the cost of safety equipment.

Sizes/Models

JumpSport offers round trampolines in 12- or 14-foot diameters, as well as a 10-by-17-foot rectangular model. Skywalker has a 13-foot square model and several 17-by-15 oval models, as well as a folding 8-by-10 model. The Skywalker models include 7-inch springs and the JumpSport models have 8.5-inch springs -- the longer the spring, the bigger the bounce. The Skywalker models vary by size and level of cushioning, but the Jumpsport trampolines include other features like a double-spring "staged-bounce" system, which is built for a softer landing.

Safety Equipment

Safety nets are a must with trampolines. The Skywalker trampolines come preoutfitted with a mesh safety enclosure that can be secured with a zipper and latches. The Jumpsport enclosures cost $230 to $400 extra, as of 2010, depending on the model, and include a double-flap opening that does not secure. Both companies cover the springs and brackets with thick padding, but while JumpSport uses heavy-duty PVC, Skywalker uses vinyl. Some Skywalker models have W-shaped legs that provide extra stability, but JumpSport trampolines include a spring-tensioning system that results in less kickback, reducing your risk of injury.

Accessories

Both companies offer trampoline accessories. The Skywalker accessories tend toward the functional, with shoe holders, ladders and wind stakes making up the bulk of the offerings. JumpSport sells a variety of games for the trampoline, including basketball, "Hoppy Balls," a jump game mat and a trampoline tent.

Cost

Skywalker trampolines range from $585 to $799, as of 2010, with the safety enclosure included. JumpSport trampolines range from $299 to $1,599, as of 2010, and the safety enclosure costs extra. The Skywalker accessories are relatively low-priced -- $60 buys you the combo pack that includes the wind stakes, ladder and show holder. JumpSport accessories range from a few dollars to $149.95 for one of its basketball games, as of 2010.
