1. Yoga Balls Everywhere

Yoga balls, or exercise balls, are used in gyms, at schools and at home as a low tech way of staying in shape. You can do a variety of exercises on a yoga ball, and now yoga balls are used in alternative types of group exercise classes, such as stability ball or exercise ball classes, and for independent workouts at the gym and at home.

2. Not the New Kid on the Block

Although, the yoga ball has gained recent popularity, it's actually been around for a while, and was first introduced with yoga and Pilates practice. Typically they're used in yoga and Pilates for abdominal work and stretching, such as supported backbends. Some yoga and Pilates instructors use them in classes along with floor routines or as an alternative to floor exercises, especially when participants have lower back issues. Yoga balls are also used to develop balance and to build core strength, which you need for all sorts of exercise.

3. Roll With the Ball

You can use a yoga ball for stretching and avoid the floor. Not only is it great for a supported backbend but also for a forward supported stretch. Do side stretches as well and loosen up tight muscles and joints throughout the abdomen, back and sides. You can stretch leg and arm muscles on a yoga ball too. Just about any type of exercise you can do on the floor, you can also do on a yoga ball. Complete leg and arm exercise routines on a yoga ball while working on balance and building your core strength. You can also let the ball support your back during sit-ups and crunches, or to support your core while doing push-ups.

4. Home Gym Away From Home

You can utilize your yoga ball while traveling. You don't have to learn new machines while visiting out of town gyms. You'll have your exercise equipment with you. Stretch out and stick with your usual workout routine no matter where you are. To travel with your yoga ball simply deflate it, fold it and pack it away in your suitcase.

5. Yoga Ball Chair

Yoga balls make good chairs, especially if you suffer with back or leg problems. Don't waste money on ergonomically correct chairs if you don't have too. A yoga ball makes a good desk chair for office or home use because it's easy on your back and legs and keeps your core active. Also, because it gives way to your body, it's not the same as having to sit for hours in a desk chair, which can impair your circulation. Watch TV while sitting on your yoga ball also--you can't be called a yoga ball potato.
