As of 2010, skateboarding companies offer clothing items in a variety of styles. While some skateboarders choose clothes for function, others opt for more fashionable designs. Skateboarding clothes have been made to withstand a rough asphalt riding terrain yet correspond with your personal style.

Pants

Skateboarding pants commonly take the most abuse during trick riding maneuvers. When bailing from a trick, you may have to slide full speed across the pavement. Many skateboarders prefer tighter pants known as skinny jeans. Skinny jeans prevent your pants from making contact with the board during street skating tricks. Skateboarders who enjoy listening to rap music often don a baggier pant design. While these pants may get in the way when you skate, you may find them more comfortable than the tighter pant models.

Shirts

The style of the skateboarding shirt largely depends on the time of year. Many skateboarders prefer a simple T-shirt design when skating in warm conditions. The 2011 Transworld Skateboarding Buyer's Guide states that skateboard T-shirts often have a large brand logo printed on the front. For added protection and warmth, many skaters prefer to wear a flannel shirt that features a thick cotton design. Sweatshirts also remain popular as they provide extra cushioning during high-speed falls.

Hats

Skateboarding companies offer hats in numerous designs. Wear a skateboard hat to keep the hair out of your eyes during dangerous tricks and maneuvers. The skateboard hat can also soak up your perspiration during hot days and long sessions. According to Thrasher Skateboard Magazine, skateboarders commonly wear adjustable hats as well as the cloth beanies. Skateboarding hats come in a variety of colors and often feature a company logo of some kind. For a custom fit, choose a skateboard hat the features a flexible elastic band.

Accessories

Skateboarders often wear accessories for added style. Keep in mind that some accessories may hinder your movement during trick riding techniques. Watches remain a stylish yet functional accessory worn by all types of skateboarders. Many professional skateboarders wear gold and silver pinky rings that feature brand logos. Skateboarders often wear a shoe string that functions as a belt. While the origins of this accessory remain unknown, the shoe string provides needed support for baggy pants.
