Going through the motions of everyday life can be difficult when you are tired. When you are fatigued, however, accomplishing the tasks of daily life can be nearly impossible. Fatigue is characterized by a lack of energy or motivation. While there are many reasons why you might be fatigued, there are some fundamental ways to combat this problem.
Get Enough Sleep
Many people lead a busy lifestyle which can contribute to not having enough sleep. During the day, your brain, body and emotions may be constantly stimulated by the television, computers, work, your children, and everyday stressors. It is important that you get enough sleep. For most people, this means at least eight hours of sleep a night. Make sure you avoid caffeine as much as possible and perform low-stress activities prior to going to sleep so that you can fall asleep more easily.
Decrease Stress
If your work schedule or family life is contributing to your fatigue, it is important that you take a look at the demands you put on yourself and make a change if necessary. Restructure your priorities. Consider what you really need in your life versus what can be eliminated to reduce stress. Examine your schedule, continuing on with activities that are truly necessary and enjoyable. Adopt positive ways to relieve stress such as mediation or yoga.
Exercise and Eat Properly
Exercising can help relieve stress and give you more energy. Try walking for 30 minutes a day to quiet the mind and improve the body. Eat a healthy diet based on lean proteins, whole grains and plenty of fruits and vegetables. Keep processed foods to a minimum.
Reasons for Fatigue
There may be medical or emotional reasons for fatigue. It is important to have an evaluation by your medical doctor to rule out serious medical conditions that need to be treated. If you are suffering from fatigue because of mental illness such as depression, you should be working closely with your psychiatrist or medical provider to ensure your well-being. Sometimes, certain medical and emotional conditions require treatment with medications. Follow your doctor's advice and make sure that you notify him if symptoms worsen or recur.
