Commonly used for jumping aerobics and flying gymnastics, trampolines can put an energetic bounce into any type of activity. With a bit of creativity, you can modify nearly any game or sport to play from a trampoline's bouncy surface. In fact, if you have a trampoline, a basketball hoop and a ball, you can play a variety of trampoline basketball games.
Get Past the Goalie
Similar to the traditional "monkey in the middle" game, this basketball trampoline game involves trying to get the ball past a goalie and into the net. Position the basketball hoop just one or two feet away from the trampoline. Select a goalie and ask him to get up on the trampoline. The other players surround the outside of the trampoline with one basketball. The players on the ground work together to shoot the ball and make a basket. Meanwhile, the goalie bounces around the trampoline trying to swat the ball away from the basket. If you have a large group, divide the kids into two teams. Challenge the teams to see which group can make more baskets in a five-minute period. To keep the game competitive, select a goalie from the opposing team to swat away the basketballs.
H.O.R.S.E.
H.O.R.S.E. is a fairly popular basketball game typically played on the ground. To ensure safety on a trampoline, only two or three people should play this game at a time. One person starts with the basketball and attempts to make a shot. If she makes the shot, the other players must attempt to make the same shot from her exact location. Any player that misses the shot receives an "H." If the first player misses the original shot, the second player may shoot from any location. Again, if she makes the shot, all other players must attempt the same spot from her exact location. For every missed shot, another letter from the word "HORSE" is given. Once a player receives all the letters, she is out of the game.
H.O.R.S.E With a Twist
Once you become familiar with the traditional H.O.R.S.E. game, add a little variety to the game to make it more fun. Before a player attempts to make a shot, he must perform some trick on the trampoline. For example, he might choose to do a front flip or bounce on her backside. If he makes the shot, the remaining players must not only attempt his shot, but perform the same trick as well.
Bouncing Balls
This trampoline basketball game works best if you have multiple miniature trampolines to use. These miniature trampolines are often low to the ground and hold only person at a time. Line the trampolines up in a vertical line in front of the basketball hoop. Each player positions herself on a trampoline. The person farthest away from the basketball hoop holds the basketball. Everyone should begin jumping up and down. The goal of the game is to pass the basketball down the line --- while bouncing --- with the final person attempting the shot. Once she makes the shot, everyone moves up to the trampoline in front of them. The person on the first trampoline moves to the back and the entire sequence is repeated.
