How to Remove Ingrown Pubic Hairs

A piece of hair that grows under the skin instead of straight out is referred to as an ingrown hair. When a piece of hair becomes ingrown it can cause irritation to the skin and can even lead to infection. Ingrown hairs often occur in places that are shaved often, as the hair has to continually grow through the skin. For example, when shaving the pubic region became more popular in the 1990s, more outbreaks of ingrown pubic hair began occurring. If you have an ingrown pubic hair, you should take steps to fix it to prevent further complications.

Step 1

Wash the area around the ingrown hair with a soap and lukewarm water. Make sure that the area is thoroughly clean.

Step 2

Sterilize the tip of the tweezers by holding over an open flame for a few minutes. A lighter is perfect for this because the flame is small and controllable.

Step 3

Soak the washcloth in warm water to create a warm compress. Make sure excess water has been wrung out of the washcloth before use.

Step 4

Place the warm compress on the ingrown hair for a few minutes to open up the pores around the hair follicle.

Step 5

Gently try to pull the hair out from under the skin with the tweezers. Try to straighten it out once you have surfaced it, as this will keep the hair from growing back into the skin.

Step 6

Once the hair is on the outside of the skin, clean the area thoroughly with hydrogen peroxide to fight off any infections.

Tips and Warnings

  • When applying the compress, try not to put too much pressure on the hair follicle itself. The heat is used to open up the pores, not loosen the skin.
  • When using the tweezers, don't remove the hair completely. This will cause damage to the skin and cause you to bleed and breakout.
