Golf is a sport played by all ages that can be enjoyed for a lifetime. Although golfers can improve simply by practicing, there are other ways to try to lower your handicap. One option is a software-based system called video motion analysis.

Video Motion Analysis

Video motion analysis can be used in any sport, but it has been widely used for years to analyze individual's golfers' swings and to help them make improvements. After video of a golfer's swing is recorded it can be reviewed repeatedly and paused to identify flaws. The videos also can be kept in a software library to gauge improvement over time. Video motion analysis can be more effective than traditional lessons with an instructor because of the ability to slow the swing down.

Availability

A variety of companies market video motion analysis software. Many versions can be purchased online and downloaded to your computer. Most are compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems. Packages range from those targeted to amateurs to more advanced versions for instructors.

Benefits

Because the golf swing can be slowed down and analyzed in detail, video motion analysis can be especially beneficial for coaches and instructors. Software analysis gives golf professionals the ability to show their students areas that need improvement that might not be identified otherwise. Video analysis can also help a golfer improve his body mechanics. Poor golf swings can lead to injury over time.

Cost

The majority of home-based amateur video motion analysis packages start at around $100. More advanced options can cost $1,000. Many companies offer free trials that can be downloaded before you buy the entire package.
