DX Vs. McMahon

Degeneration X, also known as DX, and Vince McMahon remain some of the most influential figures in the history of World Wrestling Entertainment. As a result, the feud between the two sides became highly anticipated and dominated WWE programming throughout most of 2006. Although this feud did not reach the same heights as the one between Vince McMahon and Stone Cold Steve Austin, many fans remember it because it reunited DX for yet another run.

Beginning

This feud actually started in late 2005 between DX member Shawn Michaels and McMahon when McMahon made some critical comments about a recently released Bret Hart DVD. Michaels, who had feuded with Hart in the past, wanted to leave all negative comments in the past and move on from the situation, suggesting that McMahon do the same. According to the Online World of Wrestling website, McMahon started interfering in all of Shawn Michaels' matches after this run-in and had the Spirit Squad stable attack him multiple times over the next few weeks.

Reformation of DX

After yet another attack on Shawn Michaels by the Spirit Squad, McMahon ordered Triple H, whom he called from the backstage area, to hit Michaels with a sledgehammer. Online World of Wrestling, however, reports that Triple H instead attacked the Spirit Squad, signaling that DX had reunited. This angered McMahon further, as he vowed to make life as difficult as possible for Degeneration X.

Parody

In the past, DX had cut parody promos where they would imitate other wrestlers. On June 26, 2006, they cut a similar promo where Triple H dressed up as Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels dressed up as his son, Shane McMahon. This remains one of the most memorable promos in the company's history, ending in a scene where items fell from the rafters onto the McMahons and the Spirit Squad as they attempted to intervene, and helped this feud reach new heights.

Memorable Events

In the coming weeks, DX and the McMahons would interfere in each other's matches. The McMahons even got Triple H arrested one night, which allowed them to gang up on Shawn Michaels after a match against Umaga. Eventually, DX and the McMahons had a match at SummerSlam, which, according to 411Mania.com, ended with Triple H pinning Vince.

End

The McMahons decided that they could not beat DX on their own, so they hired the services of ECW champion Big Show. 411Mania.com reports that DX won this "Hell in a Cell" match at the "Unforgiven" pay-per-view event and embarrassed Vince McMahon heavily in the process by pressing his face into Big Show's exposed buttocks. DX then moved on to a new feud with Randy Orton and Edge, leaving the McMahons alone for the time being.
