One of the most important factors in regulating the male libido is hormone levels, specifically testosterone. According to the National Institute on Aging, testosterone is produced in the testes and plays an integral role in male reproductive health and libido. When testosterone levels are too low, the male libido decreases. The National Institutes of Health states that testosterone levels are affected by diet, with vitamin B and zinc being especially important in maintaining sufficient levels of the hormone. Fortunately, there are many foods that contain these important nutrients and can help increase the male libido.

Fruits

Some of the best foods for increasing the male libido are fruits. One fruit, avocado, contains high levels of vitamin B6, folic acid and potassium. These vitamins and minerals assist in the production of male hormones. The bromelain and potassium content of bananas help increase testosterone production and male sex drive. Figs are another fruit that might boost male libido.

Vegetables

The high vitamin E content of asparagus helps increase male libido by stimulating production of testosterone. Celery is another good vegetable for improving sex drive because of its androsterone content.

Seafood

Seafood is nutrient-rich, and foods such as salmon and oysters contain a variety of vitamins and minerals necessary for testosterone production and reproductive health. Raw oysters are especially high in zinc, which is necessary for adequate testosterone levels and sperm production.

Nuts and Seeds

Nuts and seeds work to increase male libido by supplying the body with a number of essential fatty acids and minerals. Almonds are an excellent source of fatty acids necessary for hormone production, and pine nuts are rich in zinc and other nutrients.

Eggs

The abundance of B vitamins in eggs helps balance hormone levels, increase libido, and improve stamina. Vitamins B5 and B6 can also help the body cope with stress, which can improve the libido even more.

Other Foods

A number of other foods might affect testosterone production and help improve the male sex drive. Sweet basil, brown rice, turkey, liver, chocolate and cheese are worth adding to the diet when libido is low.
