This herb has not been researched specifically in the treatment of high blood pressure, but when used for treating heart disease, some people believe the benefits carry over for treating high blood pressure, according to UMMC. Hawthorn may be taken for six weeks in doses of 240mg to 480mg per day.
Garlic
Garlic is a common herb used for seasoning a variety of foods. Garlic contains high levels of antioxidants that help prevent cells from damage due to free radicals. According to the website HolisticOnline, patients with high blood pressure who took part in a study and took one clove of garlic per day for 12 weeks showed a significant reduction in their cholesterol levels and diastolic blood pressure.
Celery Seed
Celery seed has been used since ancient times for treating cold and flu symptoms. According to UMMC, animal studies show that celery seed extract may be beneficial in lowering cholesterol and blood pressure in addition to protecting the liver from certain toxins. UMMC suggests taking celery seed extract in doses of 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. up to three times per day with plenty of liquid at meals.
