Host a party at the miniature golf course or create a putt putt course in your own backyard. Wherever you host the miniature golf-themed party, plan a variety of putt putt games for guests to enjoy. Players can compete for the best score or to win prizes such as golf balls, golf club pens, prize ribbons and golf-themed novelty items.
Obstacle Course
Cut holes out of patches of artificial turf and insert small plastic cups to serve as the holes. Scatter them around the yard. Attach numbered flags to wooden dowels and stake one into each patch of turf. Set up obstacles for players to putt around on their way to the final hole. Use toys, decorated cardboard boxes and household items as obstacles. You may wish to have a theme for your obstacle course such as "safari" golf in which you can use stuffed jungle animals and cardboard cutouts of trees throughout the course. Another option is to have a different theme or obstacle for each hole. Decorate a cardboard box to look like a house and cut out a door. Place the house over the hole so players will have to put the ball through the door to reach the hole. Other cardboard cutout ideas include a clown or animal face with an open mouth through which to shoot or a moving object such as a train circling the hole on its looped track.
Tournament
Hold a putt putt tournament. If your miniature golf course has eighteen holes, you can divide the game into three sets. At the sixth hole, have at least three players with the best scores move on to the second set of holes. When these players reach the 12th hole, at least two of the best scorers will move forward to complete the final set. The single player with the best score is the putt putt champion.
Another variation of a putt putt tournament is to let all of the players complete all 18 holes. A select number of players with the lowest scores will advance to play again.
The choice of tournament game and the amount of players to advance in each round should be based on the number of total participants and the time allotted for play.
Moving Target
Have an adult dress up in a funny outfit and run, jump or do crazy moves throughout the golf course. Players have to putt soft foam golf balls at this moving target. Each time a player hits the target, he wins a point. The target can romp from hole to hole as players putt their way to the end, or the target can simply move back and forth along the same line, with players lined up to shoot at her, "duck hunt" style.
Wacky Putt Putt
Assign a silly task to be performed while putting at each hole. Ideas for silly putt-putt include putting while blindfolded, putting with one arm, putting while standing on one foot, putting with the putter held behind one's back and putting while hopping like a bunny. Ideas for silly putting actions should vary depending on the age group of players.
