Bowling games can be an entertaining addition to a college party --- or even just a fun way to spend a Wednesday afternoon. Luckily, you don't have to go to a real bowling alley and spend your hard-earned money to have fun bowling. There are a variety of bowling games that can be played with supplies found around the dorm or house.
Marble Bowl
"The Children's Busy Book" recommends marking a line on the floor with a string or chalk. Start by shooting or rolling a marble from behind this line --- trying to make it go as far as possible. This becomes the target ball that all other players must aim for. If a player manages to hit the target marble --- or get it within a hand's distance away, he wins the target marble. If no one gets close enough, you win the target marble. Take turns shooting the target marble.
Beach Bowl
If you live close to the beach or a sandy area at a park, the Disney FamilyFun website suggests "Beach Bowling." Use a disposable plastic cup to mold 10 bowling pins in the sand. Draw a line approximately 8 feet away from the bowling pins and take turns rolling a ball at the pins. Every player gets two rolls. Count the number of pins you knock over and set them up again for the next player. Record the score in the sand.
Gourd Bowling
For parties that occur in the fall months, consider bowling with pumpkins and gourds. Find gourds that are bottle-shaped, with bases wider than the neck. Set them up like bowling pins and make a starting line on the floor with masking tape or chalk. Take turns rolling the pumpkins across the floor, attempting to knock over as many gourds as possible. Keep score if desired, or just play for the fun of it.
Soccer Bowling
"Soccer Bowling" combines the fun of bowling and soccer --- just be sure to find a large yard or field to play it in. Arrange 10 empty beer or soda bottles and cans into the shape of a circle or triangle. Stand about 20 feet away from the pins, and kick an inflated ball at the cans. Attempt to knock over as many pins as possible in three tries. Tally up your points and let the next player give it a try.
