The practice of yoga originated at least 5,000 years ago in India, but millions of people worldwide enjoy its benefits today. If you enjoy practicing yoga and have done so for a long period of time, you may want to consider teaching yoga classes. Yoga teachers lead students through a series of poses, also called asanas. There are many good reasons to become a yoga teacher.

Health Benefits

Teaching yoga provides exercise for you at the same time that you are working. Yoga teachers may teach multiple classes each day, several times per week. This means that, along with your students, you get a workout from every class you teach. This helps you reap the benefits of yoga, including burning calories, releasing muscle tension and providing relaxation.

Social Benefits

Teaching yoga gives you an opportunity to share an activity you enjoy with other people. This can be rewarding, especially when you see your students become more flexible or get in better physical condition as a result of regular yoga practice. You can also develop friendships with your students based on your shared common interest of yoga.

Work Environment

Working as a yoga teacher may be more pleasant than other types of jobs. You perform the work in yoga studios, gyms or public recreation spaces. You may be self-employed, working as a contractor. This allows you to be your own boss, working as much or as little as you prefer.

Income

Teaching yoga classes is an excellent way to make extra income doing what you love. You can teach classes as a full-time career or as a supplement to another full-time day job. You can make more money as a yoga teacher if you have an established client base or teach multiple styles of yoga.
