Thin is in, and women feels pressure to live up to this ideal. However, modern culture makes it easy to avoid physical activity and highly caloric drinks and treats are heavily promoted. Teenage girls may want to lose weight the same as any other woman but must use caution to avoid losing too much weight to disrupt their physical growth.
Exercise
Get more exercise. Engage in aerobic exercise several times per week. Activities such as jogging, brisk walking, dancing and swimming can provide aerobic exercise. Organized sports can also provide exercise, including soccer, softball and even cheerleading.
Lift Weights
Lifting weights will actually make you look more toned and can help you lose weight. You won't build bulky muscles because women don't have enough testosterone to do so. But you will build a small amount of shapely, toned muscles, and muscle burns more calories even while you are at rest.
Eat a Balanced Diet
Eat a well-balanced diet, incorporating all of the food groups. Include whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean meat and low-fat dairy. Do not skip meals or go on crash diets because it can cause your metabolism to slow down, which decreases your weight loss. Use caution about eating in social situations, as many favorite teen foods, such as pizza and nachos, are very high in calories.
Drink More Water
Increase your water intake to lose more weight. Drinking eight to 10 glasses of water each day can boost your weight loss, in part by flushing out your kidneys and reducing water retention. Drinking enough water can also help you feel more satisfied and less hungry, which may decrease mindless snacking. Water is also a good substitute for high-calorie beverages such as sodas and sweetened coffee drinks.
