Tires can make or break your bike riding experience. They have a huge impact on your bike's performance. Even though a set of tires will last, on average, a half season, you shouldn't scrimp when it comes to purchasing tires for your bike. Knowing the best tires for your bike will highly improve your time spent cycling.

Vittoria Open Corsa EVO CX

The Vittoria Open Corsa EVO CX tire is rated the best all around tire by Greg Pelican of Bethel Cycle. This tire possesses a cross section that is round and meaty with a lot of rubber. It features 290 threads per inch, which is the highest thread count of any tire and gives these tires a very supple ride on all road surfaces. The Vittoria Open Corsa EVO CX boasts a twin-tread design, with harder rubber in the center and softer rubber on the side for traction while cornering.

Michelin Pro-2 Race 25c

The editors at "Bicycling" gave the Michelin Pro-2 Race 25c tires five stars in November 2009. "What I can feel is a supple ride quality that reminds me in many ways of a tubeless or tubular tire but you don't need any kind of special wheel or rim to experience these," the magazine's review states. These tires are made of 100 percent silica energy rubber, and they have puncture-resistant reinforcement and casing with cross-ply fibers. "This is a proven performer that wears great and is good in all conditions," according to Pelican.

Continental Attack/Force

The Continental Attack/Force tires are top rated racing tires, according to Pelican. These tires are a great choice for a tri-bike or time-trial race. "This specially designed combo has been optimized for the best performance," Pelican says. The wider rear tire is called the Force. It has a specific tread pattern and a higher durometer rubber to balance the wear of the front tire. The narrower front tire is called the Attack. It has less tread and a stickier rubber compound for cornering. These fast tires are light and roll well.

Vittoria Zaffiro Pro

The Vittoria Zaffiro Pro tires were awarded five stars by Mike Cushionbury of "Bicycling," who says "The Zaffiro is an attractive value especially considering it's available in a plump 700x25 size." These tires are made of a mix of synthetic fabrics and rubber for durability, giving you a solid choice for daily training or playing on gravel, dirt or debris-covered roads. The large width of these tires makes them an unbeatable value.
