The belly is one of the most difficult places to slim down. Sit-ups aren't enough to slim the waist line, although they can help tone the area. It takes long-term diet changes and frequent aerobic exercise to get rid of fat that accumulates in the abdomen.
Step 1
Do more cardio exercises. The best way to lose fat, including the belly, is to burn calories. Burning more calories than you consume during the day removes fat in all areas. It's estimated that 3,500 calories burned in a week will help the patient lose 1 pound of fat.
Step 2
Do proper stomach crunches at least four times a week. Aim for 10 crunches a day and work up to 20 to 30 crunches per day. Keep your feet flat on the floor and cross your hands across your chest. It isn't necessary to pull the whole body off the floor. Lift the back off the floor enough to feel resistance.
Step 3
Eliminate fatty foods and junk food snacks from your diet. Excess fats and carbohydrates are stored in the tissue, including the belly.
Step 4
Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables to lower fat intake and provide fiber that makes you feel fuller.
Step 5
Keep a food journal. To ensure that you aren't eating too many calories, record what you've eaten and how many calories each day. This will help you reduce caloric intake so you can lose fat around the belly.
