Weight loss diets may focus on carbohydrates, proteins, fats or combinations of food that help you lose weight. Much of the time, these diets lessen the amount of carbohydrate intake and reduce or eliminate processed foods. By increasing your focus on healthier type foods, you increase your chances of weight-loss success.

Atkins

The Atkins diet consists of four phases, MayoClinic.com reports. In the first phase, called the induction phase, you will avoid ingredients such as sugar and will watch the number of carbohydrates you take in, which need to add up to 12 to 15 grams. Meats do not contain carbohydrates so you can eat as much as you want. Certain shellfish contains carbohydrates, so you may need to limit yourself to 4 ounces of these foods, such as oysters and mussels. Beverages should not contain carbohydrates. You may ingest 1 teaspoon of oils daily. In the second phase, you can start adding carbohydrates to your diet, after you lose the first 10 to 15 pounds. Ongoing weight loss includes five net carbohydrates in your daily diet per week. You may now add berries, nuts and seeds to your diet. In phase three, you should be 10 pounds from your goal. In this phase, you keep adding carbohydrates as you continue to lose weight. In phase four, you have reached your weight-loss goal and will know what kinds of foods you can eat to maintain your success, Atkins.com reports.

The Banana Diet

This diet promotes healthy living as you go to bed before midnight, which helps you get enough sleep, and you eat your last meal before 8 p.m. This diet requires you to eat as many bananas as you like for breakfast, followed by a glass of lukewarm water. You can eat lunch and dinner with foods of choice, but no dessert at nighttime. You may have a midday snack if you become hungry. This diet of bananas may cause your metabolism to increase and may improve digestion. Bananas actually block the absorption of certain carbohydrates in your body and they help you to feel full, EveryDiet.org indicates.

The Belly Fat Cure

Foods that help eliminate belly fat and that you can eat on this diet include seafood, cheese, wheat bread, wheat pasta, walnuts, oatmeal, brown rice, fish, pork, beef, lamb, turkey and chicken. You may consume 15 grams daily of sugar on this diet. This diet encourages you to drink eight to 10 glasses of water each day but discourages the consumption of milk and juice.
