Tony Little Gazelle Edge Trainer Vs. Gazelle Freestyle

Tony Little is the face behind the Gazelle line of fitness equipment, which is made by Fitness Quest. The Edge and the Freestyle are just two of the many Gazelle models. Most of the models are very similar with only small differences. The Freestyle is a higher-end model and offers more features than the Edge.

Specifications

The Gazelle Edge has a smaller footprint than the Freestyle, although it is taller. The Edge is 43 inches long, 28 inches wide and 53.8 inches tall. The Freestyle is 53.5 inches long, 33.5 inches wide and 44 inches tall. The wider base of the Freestyle is partially responsible for its higher user weight limit. The Freestyle can handle user loads up to 350 lbs, while the Edge has a maximum user weight of 250 lbs.

Design

The basic design of the two machines is identical. They feature dual-action split suspensions, which provide a full range of motion. This allows you to vary the intensity of your workout by speed and range of motion. The Gazelle Freestyle is constructed with 2.25-inch heavy gauge steel, while the Edge is constructed with 1.5-inch gauge steel. At 46 lbs, the Freestyle is slightly heavier than the Edge, at 40 lbs. Both machines fold down for easy storage.

Features

The Freestyle and the Edge have computers that provide feedback on the speed, distance, elapsed time and approximate calories burned. One of the distinguishing features between the two models is the heart rate monitoring capabilities of the Freestyle. Hold your thumb on the sensor to check your heart rate. The Edge does not have a pulse sensor.

Warranty and Cost

The Gazelle Edge is warranted by the manufacturer for 90 days from the original date of purchase. The Freestyle is warranted for 12 months. The warranty only applies when the machine is for personal use, not commercial use. As of January 2011, the Gazelle Freestyle, at $200, sells for almost twice as much as the Edge, which is around $100.
