Bike race games are a fun and entertaining way for all players to get exercise, improve riding skills and enjoy the warm weather. You don't even have to spend extra money on game supplies --- a variety of games can be played with common household objects and toys.
Balloon Bike Race
If you have leftover balloons from a previous party or event, the Disney FamilyFun website suggests having a "Balloon Bike Race." Begin by blowing up approximately five balloons. Lay down sheets of newspaper or cardboard, creating separate smooth paths for each player to ride on. Tape the balloons to various spots on the riding paths. At "Go!" each player must bike race over his path, attempting to pop as many balloons as possible. The player who pops the most balloons before reaching the finish line wins.
Bike Obstacle Race
Create an obstacle course, designing loops and sharp turns using chalk lines, cones, household objects or toys. Have someone time you as you race through the course, trying not to touch or bump into any lines or objects. The player with the best time wins. For an alternate version, have players start on opposite ends of the course. You must race to the opposite side without brushing up against or bumping into the other player.
Tightrope Race
Draw several 3-inch-wide lines on the driveway or sidewalk using the side of a piece of outdoor chalk. Make each line about 50 feet long. Assign a line to each player and then line up at your designated line. At "Go!" attempt to race your bike down the sidewalk, keeping both of your bike wheels on the line. If you successfully make it to the end of your line first --- you win.
Photo Bike Safari Race
Separate teams into two or three players and write a series of safari clues onto a list for each team. For instance, a clue can say, "Take a picture of a cat." Set a game time limit and have each team use one player's cell phone or digital camera to capture pictures. Each team must then race around the neighborhood on bikes, attempting to take pictures of each safari clue. The first team to complete the list and race back to the finish line wins.
