According to MyOptumHealth.com, treadmills rank among the most popular pieces of home fitness equipment because they require nothing more than the knowledge of how to walk or run. The Pro-form treadmill gives you a cardio workout through aerobic exercise by simply walking or running at a consistent pace. When the Pro-form treadmill begins to encounter speed problems, it interrupts your workout and requires some maintenance to get it back to working order.
Slow Walking Belt
The Pro-form treadmill requires a surge suppressor to operate correctly. Plug a single-outlet surge suppressor into the grounded wall outlet near your treadmill. The 120-volt, 15 amp suppressors must have a voltage rating of 400 volts or less and a minimum of 450 joules surge dissipation. Plugging the treadmill into the outlet without the surge suppressor can cause the walking belt to run slowly.
Slows Down When Walked On
If the walking belt is too tight, it can cause the walking belt to slow once you step onto the belt and start walking. Unplug the Pro-form treadmill from the wall and remove the safety key from the display console. Insert a hex key into the rear adjustments bolts. Alternately turn each bolt counterclockwise one-quarter turn until you can lift the belt from the deck three to four inches. Plug the Pro-form treadmill into the wall and re-insert the safety key. Turn the treadmill on to walk on it, verifying the belt no longer slows. If the belt continues to slow, continue to loosen the belt.
Walking Belt Skips and Slips
A loose walking belt can cause the treadmill speed to alternate between fast and slow. Unplug the Pro-form treadmill from the wall and remove the safety key from the display console. Insert a hex key into the rear adjustments bolts. Alternately turn each bolt clockwise one-quarter turn until the belt is tight enough to lift from the deck three to four inches. Plug the Pro-form treadmill into the wall and re-insert the safety key. Turn the treadmill on and carefully walk on it. Confirm the belt no longer skips and slips. If the belt continues to vary in speed, continue to tighten the belt.
Worn Walking Belt
A worn-out walking belt can slip on the rollers and deck, causing inconsistent speeds on the Pro-form treadmill. Replace the belt by removing the motor hood and the foot rails on each side of the walking belt. Turn both the rear and the front adjustment bolts counterclockwise to loosen the belt. Lift the deck to remove and replace the walking belt. Replace the foot rails and the motor hood. Turn both the front and the rear adjustment bolts clockwise to tighten the walking belt.
