Kundalini yoga is a type of hatha yoga that emphasizes movement, breath and meditation to move the creative energy stored at the base of the spine upward to higher energy centers. Training to become a kundalini yoga teacher, requires a student immerse themselves fully in the kundalini lifestyle. It is an extensive process requiring emotional, spiritual and time commitments. The Kundalini Research Institute offers a three-level training program for aspiring teachers and serious yoga students.

History of Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini yoga has existed for thousands of years and has its roots in the Kasmir region of Indian. Yogi Bhajan, an Indian guru, began teaching kundalini yoga in the United States in 1969. It differentiates itself from other forms of hatha yoga by its emphasis on kriya and naad. Kriya is a sequence of postures and breath aimed to bring healing to a particular ailment. Naad is sound; in kundalini yoga, sound is used, often through mantra and chanting.

Level 2 and Level 3 Training

Level 2 kundalini yoga training is a 300-hour program. It focuses on inner growth and personal development toward fully realizing the kundalini lifestyle. Topics of study include meditation, conscious communication and intuition. Students who complete this level are eligible for the Experienced-Registered Yoga Teacher status from the Yoga Alliance.
