The American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program provides various levels of swimming classes taught by certified instructors. Available at local swimming facilities nationwide, choose from parent and child aquatics, preschool aquatics and learn-to-swim classes for children 6 years of age through adulthood. Swimming And Water Safety Program

The American Red Cross offers progressive multi-level swimming, and water safety program for children and adults levels one to six. These interactive courses encourage participants to incorporate swimming into a lifetime fitness plan and practice proper water safety. Students receive instruction and coaching on strokes, dives and turns.

Levels one to six

The American Red Cross offers six levels of water safety swimming classes. Level one, an introductory course, helps participants feel comfortable in the water. Level two provides fundamental aquatic skills, including treading water and retrieving submerged objects. Develop your strokes during level three and learn rotary breathing as well as the front crawl and elementary backstroke. Improve your stroke technique when you take level four, along with learning the breaststroke and sidestroke. Level five refines your strokes and you learn shallow-angle diving along with front and backstroke flip turns. Level six is designed for students who want to go on to become a water safety Instructor and participate in competitive swimming and diving activities.

Take water safety swimming lessons from a nationally Red Cross Certified instructor to ensure the quality of the teacher's training and the curriculum. Red Cross certified instructors have the knowledge to design personalized or group classes help you perfect swimming technique. Each instructor possesses the skills to execute a variety of rescue techniques should problems arise.

Prevent Children From Drowning

In the U.S., an average of 10 deaths per day occur due to unintentional drowning, according to statistics from the U.S. Center's for Disease Control and Prevention. Children 14 years old and younger represent more than one in five fatal drowning victims. For each juvenile fatality from drowning, another four children received emergency care for nonfatal water submersion injuries. The CDC recommends your child take formal swimming lessons to protect her from drowning.
