Not all cycling shoes are created equal, especially when it comes to gender-specific road cycling shoes. Male road cyclists need a shoe with a lower arch, wider heel and a deeper first toe. That's why it's important for men to get the best cycling shoe to fit their needs.

Shimano SH-R132

Five stars is what the editors at Bicycling gave Shimano's SH-R132 shoes. These shoes are designed for a secure fit. They feature a stiff sole, and are made of carbon fiber, but they are heavier than most road bike shoes. This shoe is best for hardcore riders, according to Bicycling.

Specialized BG Pro Carbon Road Shoes

The BG Pro Carbon Road Shoes were given 4-1/2 stars by Jez Loftus of BikeRadar.com. "The BG Pro Carbon Road Shoe tops the specialized road range and over the past years has proven to be one of the most universally comfortable shoes on test," Loftus wrote.

Sidi Ergo 2

"The Sidi Ergo 2 is created much, much more equal than just about any shoe out there," according to Cycling-Review.com. Although these shoes carry a high price tag, they feature an adjustable heel security system that can be tightened or loosened to conform to your heel effectively. These shoes are snug enough to eliminate heel lift. And all components of these shoe are replaceable.

DMT Flash Carbon Soled Cycling Shoes

BikeCyclingReviews.com gives the DMT Flash Carbon Soled Cycling Shoes a 9-1/2 out of 10 ranking. These shoes feature a carbon sole, which helps with strength and aerodynamics as you ride. "The uppers have been designed to be a seamless, sock fit, so no uncomfortable stitching or overlaps and pressure points on critical areas of the foot," according to the website.
