Finding the time to stick to your daily exercise routine can be difficult, especially during busy or stressful days. However, there are small steps you can take to increase your activity level and keep fit, even if you don't have time to hit the gym. Participating in a few mild to moderate physical activities throughout the day can decrease stress, improve your health and help you maintain a healthy weight.

Take Advantage of Large Parking Lots

For most people, finding a good parking spot can be tricky. The closer you are to the front of your building, the fewer open parking spaces there seem to be. To add a bit of mild cardio to your day, try parking farther away. Not only will your stress level go down because you no longer have to battle your fellow shoppers or co-workers for a prime parking spot, but you will get the added bonus of an extra walk to bump up your heart rate and boost your mood.

Use the Stairs

Where there is an elevator, there is most likely to be a flight of stairs as well. Stair-climbing can be an excellent daily activity to keep you fit. Instead of using the elevator to get your office or apartment, try taking the stairs to your desired floor. If you have several floors to go, take the stairs for one or two levels and take the elevator for the remainder. As your fitness level improves from this daily routine, you'll be able to take a greater number of stairs than when you started.

Use a Pedometer

Use a pedometer to track how many steps you take in a day can increase your activity level. Keep an eye on how much you're walking on a daily basis. Try increasing the amount of steps you take by 500 each day. Not only with this guarantee you exercise more, it can also be a fun challenge to keep yourself motivated.

Pay Attention to your Diet

When you eat better, you feel better. Sticking to a diet that is low in fat and high in fiber will help give you the energy you need to keep up with your fitness goals. Include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, lean protein, and carbohydrates from whole grains in your food regimen to see positive results in your overall health.
