The Mayo Clinic says that varicose veins commonly affect your legs and feet. This causes discomfort when standing up and walking, or basically any activity that puts pressure on your veins. To help combat varicose veins, there are a variety of vitamins that work to provide relief.

B Complex Vitamins

Many vitamins from the B complex group of vitamins help treat varicose veins. According to MotherNature.com, you should ensure you have an adequate supply of certain B vitamins in your diet, such as vitamin B9 or folic acid, vitamin B12 or cobalamin and vitamin B6 or pyridoxine, especially if you have a family history of blood clots as these vitamins can help to prevent them. Another B vitamin, vitamin B3 or niacin, is beneficial for combating varicose veins as it improves blood circulation in your veins and arteries, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin, and is needed by your body to assist in the formation of two connective tissues called collagen, used to make skin, and elastin, which allows your skin to stretch. According to the website MotherNature.com, both of these tissues help to ensure your vein walls stay strong and flexible, assisting in the prevention of varicose veins. In addition, vitamin C also helps to prevent vein walls from bulging if they come distended with blood. Low intake of vitamin C can result in atherosclerosis, which is build-up of plaque in your blood vessels over time, contributing to strokes or heart attacks.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E helps to prevent varicose veins by promoting healthy blood flow throughout your veins and arteries. Also, vitamin E helps to prevent platelets from sticking to each other, which may cause clotting.
