There are a wide range of benefits associated with exercising, one including the prevention of lung cancer. Not only will you be lowering your chances of getting lung cancer in the first place, but those suffering from lung cancer can increase their survival rate and improve their quality of life by exercising on a regular basis.

How Exercise Helps

Many cancer-related deaths occur primarily because of the diet and sedentary habits of a cancer patient; the other main reason is smoking cigarettes. Exercise releases endorphins in the body, which help us to feel good. Adding a balanced diet and exercising will automatically bring down the chances of getting lung cancer. Exercise also improves the pulmonary ventilation and perfusion, thus leading to a reduction in the concentration of carcinogenic agents in the airways of the lungs. Exercise also is known to expand your lungs.

Preventing Lung Cancer with Exercise

According to the American Association for Cancer Research, exercising is directly linked with reducing the chances of getting lung cancer. The benefits are valid for smokers as well nonsmokers. In fact, you don't even need to be on a rigorous exercising regime in order to benefit from it. Even if you just go for a walk a couple of times per week, you will be getting the exercise you require to lower your risk of lung cancer.

Participants in the study included 533 patients who had been diagnosed with lung cancer, as well as nearly 2,000 women who smoked cigarettes, but had not been diagnosed with lung cancer. In conclusion of the study, it was found that consuming healthy products, such as dairy, vegetables, fruits, and wine, as well as taking part in cardiovascular exercise protected the smokers from lung cancer.
