You can achieve your weight loss goals with hypnosis, but to maximize its effects, you must make additional changes to your lifestyle. The objective of hypnosis is to aid in reinforcing positive behavior and beliefs about the food you eat. People with eating disorders typically overeat for emotional reasons; hypnosis will assist in preventing this. Absolute Peak Hypnosis Center says, "Hypnosis helps develop and condition your mental muscles to help accomplish goals." Before attempting to utilize hypnosis for weight loss, it is important that you are prepared for a broad adjustment in eating habits.

Step 1

Locate a licensed and established hypnotist who will guide you in understanding why you have a problem with your weight. She should also help you determine whether or not you are mentally prepared for hypnosis.

Step 2

Meet with your therapist at an agreed time to start your sessions. Hypnotist Bruce Eimer uses post-hypnotic suggestion, or PHS, which sends messages to your subconscious each time you are tempted to eat food that is unhealthy. One message may be: Binging on food that is unhealthy may make you feel ill afterward. PHS focuses on directing your attention to how you will feel after you have eaten the unhealthy food. Hypnosis allows a therapist to implant such messages into your subconscious.

Step 3

Learn self-hypnosis. You can be taught how to hypnotize yourself so that you are constantly in a positive frame of mind about your food choices. You will be taught how to focus on your ultimate weight loss goal, and how to give yourself subconscious mantras, such as how good you will look once you have lost the weight.

Step 4

Use your subconscious mind to instigate actions. Another aspect of the treatment involves uniting your conscious and subconscious minds in the desire to do physical activities that aid in the calorie-burning process. Many people who are overweight are not fond of exercising, but the treatment will help in redirecting both parts of your mind into thinking how good it feels to exercise.

Step 5

Use analytical hypnotherapy. This part of the treatment will help you deal with the emotional issues that are causing you to overeat. The hypnosis will teach you that you should not use food to deal with emotional pain.
