How to Lose Weight Fast After Having a Baby

Weight loss is especially difficult after having a baby, but it is possible just by adopting a few lifestyle changes. Dietary and fitness modifications will need to be made, but be kind to yourself. Even though you want to lose weight fast, don't push it. Your body went through a lot during labor and needs time to heal. Be sure to give yourself that time before attempting speedy weight loss.

Step 1

Breastfeed your baby. Breastfeeding right after giving birth helps the pounds come off much faster. Plus, your body will snap back into shape quicker when you breastfeed. For instance, your body will produce more prolactin, which makes your uterus shrink, you'll burn more calories, and you'll provide vital nutrition to your baby.

Step 2

Adopt a healthier diet. Even though meal time after giving birth is pretty much grabbing anything convenient while your baby is sleeping, you can still make a conscious effort to eat better. Consume plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, lean protein and whole grains. These foods keep you feeling energized and full so you won't overeat.

Step 3

Take your time when it comes to getting back into exercise. Certainly, you want the weight to come off quickly, but it is recommended that you wait 6 weeks before you start your regular exercise regimen. This allows your body to fully heal from birth. When you do start exercising again, don't just jump back into it. Ease back into your routine, and you'll avoid super sore muscles and fatigue.

Step 4

Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. You'll keep your body hydrated, help flush toxins from your body and fat out of your system. Keeping hydrated also promotes a healthy metabolism, which is vital to weight loss.

Step 5

Incorporate exercise into your daily routine. It can be difficult to find a solid half hour to workout, so instead, take part in physical activity while doing other tasks. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, do a few curls with the laundry detergent or do lunges while waiting for the oven to preheat. Squeezing in a few minutes of exercise here and there can really add up throughout the day.
