Qigong is an energy practice that originated in China. Some forms of qigong, such as tai chi, are also used as alternative medicine. The word "qi" means energy or life force, while "gong" means skill or accomplishment cultivated through steady practice. A qigong practitioner spends a lifetime steadily practicing his craft through meditation, physical movements and breathing exercises. A qigong master has the skills and training to teach and confer rank onto others.
Step 1
Enroll in a qigong program. Try an online program, such as with the Qigong Institute or the Qigong and Daoist Training Center. Check your local listings for quigong schools, such as Shaolin kung fu or Daoist meditation centers in your area.
Step 2
Study and discuss the philosophy of qigong. Set up study groups with other practitioners or find a teacher.
Step 3
Practice the physical movements and breathing exercises. The hand-on practice is crucial to qigong mastery.
Step 4
Take any tests to achieve certification or advance within your practice. Some forms of qigong, such as kung fu, may have tournaments and demonstrations of physical skill.
Step 5
Continue to always learn to achieve mastery. A true master never stops learning.
