There are a plethora of golf ball options and technologies from which to choose, regardless of your skill level. Different dimple patterns, cores and covers offer promises of greater distance, higher or lower spin rates, and even greater accuracy even if you have a high handicap of over 20.

Price

High-handicap golfers all have one thing in common: they are going to lose golf balls more frequently than better players. As such, focus more on inexpensive golf balls, or search online wholesalers for deals on golf ball dozens. Companies like Dunlop, Top-Flite and Titleist offer new golf balls at inexpensive prices, normally under $30 per dozen, according to "Golf Digest."

Distance

If you are looking to add more distance to your game, consider a golf ball that is built to stay in the air longer. Specific dimple patterns and core materials in the ball are designed to make it more aerodynamic. For example, the Callaway Big Bertha Diablo golf ball line is a two-piece ball that offers more distance off the tee due to less spin generated at impact. As stated by "Golf Digest," this ball is appropriate for any player, regardless of swing speed, due to a neutral compression core. As of 2010, the Callaway Big Bertha Diablo sells for around $20 per dozen.

Accuracy

High handicappers also struggle with accuracy while on the course. Pinnacle Golf offers the Dimension golf ball product line to help keep the ball on a more consistent flight path after impact. The ball’s 332-dimple cover design is meant to reduce drag on the ball while in flight, leading to a straighter flight without compromising distance. The Dimension also features a soft, thin cover to enhance feel on the ball for players who prefer a softer ball. As of 2010, Pinnacle Dimension retails for about $15 per dozen.

Durability

The Top Flite Gamer series of golf balls feature a thick, three-piece core construction that promotes a higher level of cover durability which can withstand direct impact from most obstacles when a tee-shot goes astray. These balls also feature a soft mantle in order to reduce driver spin off the tee and a patented dimple-in-dimple pattern designed to optimize carry. As of 2010, the Top Flite Gamer retails for around $20 per dozen.
