Mountain bikes are specially designed to handle off-road conditions and courses. But you don’t have to be content with just taking bike rides on them. There are a variety of entertaining games that can be played on a mountain bike. Make sure to use caution and wear a helmet.

Hula-Hoop Rope

To play Hula-Hoop Rope, Disney Family Fun suggests designating an off-road path in your backyard or a large field. In the middle of the path, place a stool and two Hula-Hoops. Two players race through the course at a time, pausing briefly to pick up the Hula-Hoop and toss it over the stool. The first player to successfully complete the course gets to race the next player in line. The last racer standing wins.

Bike Polo

Find a large grassy area or dirt field to play Bike Polo. The uneven playing field can add excitement to the game. Separate into two teams and give each player a mallet or golf club. Designate goals on either side of the field and assign a time limit for the game. Similar to traditional polo, players must attempt to score a goal without falling. The team with the most goals at the end of the time limit wins.

Bike Bronco

For this game, design a course across a large field or yard, creating as many tight turns, valleys, hills and obstacles as possible. Assign one player to watch the competition and judge contestants. Each player must ride through the course, navigating all the obstacles quickly without falling off the bike or taking his feet off the pedals. The first player to get through the course wins.

Red Light/Green Light

Although Red Light/Green light is traditionally played on foot, it can be just as entertaining on a mountain bike. Find a large field and pick one player to be the stoplight. The stoplight must stand at one end of the field while all other players line up on the opposite end. The stoplight then turns her back and yells, “green light.” All players must immediately ride toward the stoplight. At any point, the stoplight can yell, “red light,” and spin around to attempt to catch any moving players. If the stoplight spots you, you are out. The first player to reach the stoplight without being spotted gets to be the next spotlight.
