Lamar exercise bikes are the brainchild of a long-time Schwinn Fitness expert. They are lauded for advanced features that can help make your workouts more comfortable and challenging. While Lamar Health, Fitness and Sports has been acquired by a larger company, you can still find Lamar bikes for sale.
History
The Lamar exercise bikes were originally produced by Schwinn veteran Kevin Lamar who launched Boulder, Colorado-based Lamar Health, Fitness and Sports in 2004. Prior to launching his company, Lamar was chief operating officer for Nautilus Group, parent company of Schwinn Fitness. He worked at Schwinn for some 18 years. The commercial fitness company Star Trac acquired all of the Lamar Health, Fitness and Sports brands and products in 2007. Kevin Lamar became vice president of and general manager for commercial sales for Star Trac.
Features
The Lamar Fitness Ignite 746 is made for home use. It has 16 levels of resistance. It comes with 20 built-in workouts. It has a low step-through frame meant to make mounting and dismounting easier as well as a large and easy-to-read display console that shows you distance, time, calories, speed, watts and RPMs.
Reviews
Exercise Equipment Review Journal gives the Lamar Fitness Ignite 746 exercise bike a good rating, in part because it one of the few bikes costing less than $1,000 to offer telemetric heart rate control. This wireless device is better than the traditional pulse grip featured on many bikes because it rests across your chest. Raters also point to the lumbar seat support that comes standard on the bike and built-in speakers as desirable features.
New Line
Star Trac, which acquired the Lamar brands, began marketing its consumer products such as home exercise bikes under the ST Fitness name in 2008. Prior to that, the company had featured the S Series. In a news release, Kevin Lamar says the new line, which includes upright and recumbent bikes, is meant to give home users equipment with good functionality that fosters a successful workout regimen. ST series bikes such as the Star Trac ST Fitness 4710 Upright Bike include multiple features, as their Lamar predecessors did. These include a contact heart rate system, 16 resistance levels, and an LCD display that gives you speed, RPMs, calories burned, and time. This bike has 12 program profiles and four heart rate programs. You also can customize four personal profiles.
