Over the last few years, many gyms have offered classes that combine dance with fitness training. This is beneficial to those who like to workout and have fun at the same time. In the present day, almost every gym offers an exercise class that involves dancing and there are tons of DVDs and infomercials that tout the advantages of incorporating dance into a fitness program.

Hip Hop

Hip hop dance can be seen in many routines from popular MTV artists like Britney Spears, NSync and Janet Jackson. Hip hop aerobics combines the traditional dance form with isolation exercises to provide a cardio workout with muscle toning. This type of class usually involves learning choreography ranging from beginner to advanced. Check your local chain gyms and dance studios for classes, or you can buy DVD workout videos.

Zumba

The Latin-flavored Zumba craze has hit major gyms all over this country. Originally found by Beto Perez in his native country, Columbia, it has become a popular dance exercise class. It combines interval training where there are faster paced movements alternated with slower movements. Zumba promotes their workout as being more like a party rather than a workout. It can be found at many health clubs worldwide and on DVD.

Core Rhythms

The Core Rhythms workout was developed by two dancers from Dancing With The Stars and it incorporated multiple styles of dance. However, it is really beneficial to those who are interested in ballroom dancing. The instructors go through the basics of each form of dance and it is promoted to develop a strong, slender body. It is available on several DVDs and each one focuses on different major muscle groups.

Nightclub Cardio Workouts

Nightclub cardio is a general workout that are offered at 24 Hour Fitness clubs, and various other versions at other gyms. The promo for nightclub cardio is a combination of several different dance types like hip hop, bollywood, salsa, striptease and more. Many instructors turn off the lights and use strobe lights or disco balls to enhance the nightclub feeling during the workout.
