An all-in-one unit, the Omron 7300W women's automatic blood pressure monitor consists of an inflatable cuff that adjusts to fit around the upper arm. Rubber tubing leads from the cuff to a digital readout unit that controls the pressure in the cuff, interprets your blood pressure and pulse, and displays that information on an easy-to-read LCD display. Once the cuff is in place, a single Start/Stop button on the readout unit activates the device.
Function
The Omron 7300W functions without the use of a stethoscope. Instead, the device employs an oscillimetric method of determine blood pressure. A sensor detects the movement of blood through the brachial artery in the arm. The device then translates the information into electronic data that appear on a digital readout.
Display Data
The digital readout unit of the Omron 7300W displays several types of information. The unit shows both your systolic and diastolic blood pressure readings in large numbers. Your pulse rate also displays and a pulse indicator flashes for each pulse during a blood pressure reading. Another icon in the shape of a heart displays if the unit detects an irregular heartbeat. If an error occurs from movement during a reading, the unit displays an icon for that as well. A low battery symbol also shows when the unit requires new batteries. Time and date also show on the unit.
Memory
The Omron 7300W also has a memory that stores a running history of blood pressure readings. With this information you can see previous readings with the time and date they were taken. You can also see the average for all blood pressure and pulse measurements over time. A guest mode on the device allows for blood pressure readings to be taken without storing the results in memory.
Use
To take a reading with the Omron 7300W, slide your arm through the properly sized arm cuff with the point where the rubber tube attaches to the cuff facing downward and over the inside of your upper elbow. Sit still with your arm resting. Press the "START" button to activate the device. Wait for the cuff to inflate. Do not move during the reading. As the cuff deflates the device detects your pulse and blood pressure. Look for the results to appear on the digital display unit.
Clinical Validation
The Omron 7300W is thoroughly tested according to several protocols for safety and accuracy. These include the those of the European Society of Hypertension International, The British Hypertension Society and the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation. The device is qualified for use in the general population, as well as for tracking blood pressure in cases of obesity, during pregnancy and cases of pre-eclampsia.
