Athletic trainers prevent and treat injuries, guide injured athletes through recovery and ensure athletes are using the proper equipment. Each year the need for athletic trainers increases in demand. This makes athletic training a popular career choice, according to the "U.S. World and News Report." With a low job turnover rate, education is important in securing a job. The University of Texas, Ithaca College, California State University at Long Beach and Michigan State University consistently top the list of best undergraduate athletic training programs released by "U.S. World and News Report" each year.

University of Texas

The University of Texas offers undergraduate students the opportunity to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training. The program is completed through the University's Department of Kinesiology and Health Education. The four-year program prepares students for careers in athletic training as well as to pass their certification exam. Students work in classroom setting as well as in clinical settings. Students will also spend time observing current athletic trainers.

Ithaca college is a small, private college located in New York. The Bachelor of Science degree is in kinesiology with an emphasis on athletic training. The program is specifically designed for individuals who wish to work in the field of sports medicine. Training is in the classroom as well as through fieldwork. Courses focus on first aid, personal safety, psychological affects of sports, sports-related injuries and pathology and physical growth of athletes.
