Exercise gadgets make working out at home more fun and provide important feedback such as calories burned, stress level, sleep time and current weight. This information is motivating as well as informative so you don't fall into the common trap of overestimating how much working out you actually do. There are even devices that prompt you to get moving if you're acting like a couch potato.

BodyMedia Fit Armband

The BodyMedia Fit Armband is one of the gadgets featured on NBC's segment, "Hot Fitness Gadgets and Gifts." This is the first product featured. The BodyMedia Fit Armband tracks your physical activity and calories burned. This product even measures how long you actually sleep. You can exercise in a home gym, with DVDs or even walk around the neighborhood and the armband records all your steps, heart rate, length of workouts and energy expenditure. There is an optional version with Bluetooth if you prefer to connect to other devices such as your laptop or a smart phone wirelessly. Otherwise, you can connect to a computer with a USB cable to download and save data.

The Wii Fit and Wii Balance Board

You've likely been living under a rock if you haven't heard of the Wii Fit video game system. The Wii Balance Board accessory works with the system for custom workouts, yoga, aerobics, jogging or ski jumping exercise games. It also tells you how many calories you expend per workout. The Wii Fit is included in the 10 best fitness gadgets list of 2010 by The Huffington Post.

Samsung MyFit

The Samsung MyFit is another gadget named one of the best by The Huffington Post. It looks just like a music player about the size of a cell phone, but it has more features than just playing music. Advertised as a wellness device, this gadget lets you input the number of calories you consume and then compares that number to how many calories you burn during exercise. Sensors in the device track stress, motion and fat.

Wi-Fi Body Scale

A scale is a staple in most fitness-conscious homes. Although your weight is not the only indicator of health, body fat percentage being an important indicator as well, knowing your weight and monitoring your progress by weight is motivational. The Wi-Fi body scale not only tells you your weight but also your body fat percentage. And it doesn't just tell you, it wirelessly tells your iPhone or web page, too. This lets you store your data and even share your results on Twitter.
